At the foot of Mount Vesuvius, in Pagani near Pompeii, a community of believers venerating Our Lady of the Hens (Madonna delle Galline) perpetuates ancient pagan traditions mixed with religious elements. These collective and popular rites and rituals celebrate the Virgin, as well as the passage of the seasons, with songs and ancestral dances of cathartic force. They are guided by the femminielli who, since ancient times, have had particular social roles in Neapolitan society. Assigned male at birth, the femminielli socially assume gender roles and expressions conventionally considered "feminine", disrupting sexual, gender, social, economic, geographical, religious and cultural identities. Disturbed by the rhythms of the tammorra, the boundaries between all these identities become even more blurred and question the world of today.
